Danh Vo's solo exhibition at White Cube New York closes on October 16, so today and tomorrow are the last chances to see it. The show opened September 10 and arrives just as Vo is named the 2026 Isamu Noguchi Award recipient. It sets very different materials and stories side by side and lets unexpected relationships form between objects and their histories.
The works include bronze sculptures, religious relics, glass pieces inspired by ikebana, and Vietnamese ceramics rescued from the bottom of the ocean. Objects from seemingly unrelated cultural and historical settings share one space and speak to one another.
Vo is a Danish citizen born in Vietnam who now lives in rural Germany. The Noguchi Museum sees in his work a spirit close to Isamu Noguchi's own multidisciplinary, multicultural practice. Vo puts it plainly: "Culture is not native: culture is cross-pollination, cross-contamination." For Japanese-speaking visitors, the ikebana-inspired glass offers a quiet point of connection.
If you want more, Vo's concurrent presentation, "Danh Vo: Rebuilding Liberty," is on view at the Vilcek Foundation through June 25, 2027. It invites reflection on liberty, migration, national identity and the unstable meanings of public symbols.
