Partners Coffee has shared the story behind Santa Elisa Gesha, the second coffee in its Exceptional Coffee series, a run of rare, limited-availability lots chosen for quality and character.
The coffee comes from Finca Santa Elisa Pachup, on the lower western slopes of Acatenango in Guatemala. At 506 hectares, it is the largest farm Partners buys from in Central America, with elevations of roughly 1,200 to 1,700 meters. Gesha is a small share of the farm's output, and this microlot is its entire gesha production. It was fully washed at Beneficio La Esperanza by Los Volcanes Coffee, a long-time partner. Staff there rinse the cherries carefully because volcanic ash can affect the depulping equipment.
In the cup, expect clementine, Meyer lemon, peach tea, raw sugar and white-flower notes such as honeysuckle. The roast is light. The box illustrations are by Moonsub Shin, who has worked with Partners since its early days. No price is listed in the post. The coffee can be ordered through the Partners Coffee online shop.
