Leonilson
On view · Sep 15 – Oct 24
This exhibition surveys the brief but productive career of Brazilian artist José Leonilson (1957–1993), organized with Projeto Leonilson and Almeida & Dale. It moves from early fabric assemblages through the varied drawings and paintings of the 1980s to the small embroidered pieces made after his 1991 HIV diagnosis. Recurring images of maps, vessels, windows, bodies and handwriting carry themes of longing, vulnerability and belonging.
