In 1986 Isamu Noguchi became the first solo artist to represent the United States at the Venice Biennale. Marking the fortieth anniversary, this single-gallery show draws on the museum's own archive: photographs, architectural sketches, a model for the marble spiral slide Slide Mantra, and Akari light sculptures. Related playground models appear upstairs in the permanent Noguchi's New York galleries, so visitors can pair the two.
