No Ordinary Light: Akari at 75
Upcoming · Nov 4 – Sep 5Japan
Akari, Isamu Noguchi's paper-and-bamboo light sculptures, turn 75 this year. Drawing on his 1951 trip to Gifu, the show follows how he presented them over his career, pairing them with his stone, metal and clay works in settings from domestic rooms to large installations. Displays echo the 1951 Eames House tea ceremony and his 1986 Venice Biennale presentation, showing how each space shapes the way the lights read.
