This retrospective surveys Minnie Evans (1892–1987), a self-taught artist from Wilmington, North Carolina, who began drawing in 1935 after a series of dreams and visions. Her pencil, crayon, oil and collage works pack angels, watchful faces, mythical creatures and patterns into dense, symmetrical scenes drawn from Afro-Caribbean heritage, scripture and local landscapes. The show, on the eighth floor, follows her first Whitney solo exhibition in 1975. It runs through January 10, 2027.
