Balera is an Italian restaurant at 442 Graham Avenue in Williamsburg, run by five hospitality partners. The cooking is coastal in style, built around the kind of food you would expect near the sea, served in a room that doesn't take itself too seriously.

The pizzas are the headline: thin Mattarello pies with a crisp, crusty edge. The menu also includes a pasta called Pastanero and a rotolo di crespella, a rolled crespelle dish. On the drinks side, there is a Negroni variant built on the Godfather.

Vinyl records, retro accents and a disco ball set the mood, which suits a relaxed dinner as easily as a late night out. Hours are Monday to Thursday 5:30 to 10 pm, Friday and Saturday 5:30 pm to 12:30 am, and Sunday 5 to 10 pm. Tables can be reserved through the restaurant's website, and takeout, delivery and gift cards are available online.
Balera also runs themed nights. This Halloween it is going full Roman Empire, with gladiators, emperors and gods in costume, and the restaurant's T-shirts have returned. Reach the team at balerabrooklyn@gmail.com or +1 347 384 2188.
