The Palm Court at The Plaza is serving a limited-run afternoon tea inspired by HBO's The Gilded Age. The High Society Tea runs through November 10 and is built around the glamour, ambition and elegance of New York's most celebrated era.

The menu brings together refined savories, freshly baked scones and handcrafted pastries, with dishes that nod to the show's characters and the city's social scene. A Cointreau cocktail is also on offer. The price is $150 per person. Season 4 of the series premieres November 1 on HBO Max, so the tea pairs well with a return to the story.

Tea is served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with arrival times in three windows: 11 to 11:30 a.m., 1:15 to 1:45 p.m., and 3:30 to 4 p.m. Reservations are taken on OpenTable. Cancellations within 72 hours, and no-shows, are charged $75 per person. The room asks guests to dress for the occasion: shorts, beach attire, athletic wear, ripped denim and casual hats are out.

The setting is part of the draw. The Palm Court opened in 1907 and is known for its stained-glass dome, ceiling-high palms and a place in The Great Gatsby. It has been a New York afternoon tea destination for more than a century. The Plaza is at 768 Fifth Avenue, on the edge of Central Park.
