Village East by Angelika, the East Village cinema, is running Hitchcocktober, a October retrospective devoted to Alfred Hitchcock. The series puts some of the director's best-known films back on a big screen.
The lineup includes Strangers on a Train, Rear Window, Suspicion, Vertigo and Psycho. Together they span a swap-murder thriller, a voyeur's view across a courtyard, a newlywed's creeping doubts about her husband, and one of the most famous shower scenes in film history.
Screenings take place on Wednesdays through the end of the month, with an additional date on October 31, Halloween itself. The program began on October 7 and runs through October 31. Admission is $19.
Hitchcock's suspense depends on a held breath, and that works best in a dark room full of strangers rather than on a laptop at home. For anyone looking for a Halloween-season night out, the series is an easy pick, and the theater's Second Avenue location makes it simple to pair with dinner or a walk through the neighborhood. Tickets and showtimes are listed on the theater's official page.
