Or'esh is a Mediterranean restaurant at 450 W Broadway in SoHo. The name nods to light and fire, and the kitchen is built around ingredient-driven cooking over coal. It comes from the team behind The Corner Store, with Michelin-starred chef Nadav Greenberg leading the kitchen.

The menu draws on the Levant. Wood fire and a coal oven handle pristine seafood, flame-kissed meats and seasonal vegetables sourced from the Union Square Greenmarket. Dishes to look for include the Jerusalem bagel, a charcoal-grilled wagyu strip and grilled fish. Greenberg describes cooking over coal as part of daily life in the Levant, and says that connection to live fire runs through the whole menu.

Dinner is served Monday through Saturday, and reservations are essential; tables are booked online. Parties of 10 or more and full buyouts can inquire through the restaurant's private events form. The restaurant's phone number is 212-292-8999.

For diners who like charcoal cooking and good beef, a wagyu strip grilled over coal in a Levantine setting makes for an appealing SoHo night out.
