Collective Retreats' glamping camp on Governors Island is in the last stretch of its season. The seasonal property, which runs from May into November, stays open through early November, and getting there takes about eight minutes by ferry from the Battery Maritime Terminal in the Financial District.
The island is 172 acres of car-free parkland, and the retreat occupies about six acres of it. There are 29 accommodations in all: Voyager twin, king and waterfront king tents, Basecamp cabins, and named suites including the Summit, Outlook and Observatory. The glass-walled suites open onto skyline and harbor views. A tent developed with Urban Cowboy has joined the lineup.
Dining centers on Three Peaks Lodge, where wood-grilled cooking is served with a view of the Statue of Liberty. Evenings are built around the Sunset Terrace, with cocktails and live music, followed by s'mores on the lawn by the fire each night. Mornings bring sunrise yoga in a tent facing the water, and guests can bike the island's paths during the day.
You don't have to stay overnight: the camp also invites day visitors to come for dinner. It hosts private events of up to 250 guests. Reservations can be made through the official booking page, by phone at 646-572-5341, or by email at reservations@collective-retreats.com.
For New Yorkers who want to get out of the city without sitting in weekend traffic, the ferry makes it an easy trip from a short walk off several subway lines. With the season closing in early November, the remaining autumn dates are limited.
