On Saturday, October 31, at 9 pm, Vessel, the climbable centerpiece of Hudson Yards at 20 Hudson Yards, hosts Candlelight Open Air: Halloween Classics. The Highline String Quartet performs a set of about 60 minutes under candlelight.
The program is built around Halloween and horror-film music for string quartet. The tentative list includes Michael Jackson's "Thriller," Gounod's Funeral March of a Marionette (the Alfred Hitchcock Presents theme), "Tubular Bells" from The Exorcist, the Stranger Things theme, the Beetlejuice main title and The Addams Family theme. John Carpenter's Halloween theme, the Prelude from Psycho, Ghostbusters, "Time Warp" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and a Nightmare Before Christmas suite are also listed. Classical staples include Saint-Saëns's Danse Macabre, Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain, Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King and Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8.
The event is open air and standing room only, with a single General Admission category. Tickets cost $70 plus a $5.60 booking fee. Doors open 45 minutes before the show, and no one is admitted once it begins. Guests must be 8 or older, and anyone under 16 needs an accompanying adult. The venue is not ADA accessible.
This is a tribute-style concert and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any artist, estate or official representative. Tickets are sold through Fever. Since guests stand outdoors on a late October night, dress warmly.
