Brooklyn Books & Booze at Industry City, NYC: Free Author Readings Tonight

Brooklyn Books & Booze is a monthly author reading held on the third Tuesday at Barrow's Intense Tasting Room, a bar and restaurant inside Industry City in Sunset Park. Today, October 20, is the October date.

Four writers are on the bill: David Heska Wanbli Weiden, Isaac Fitzsimmons, Mary G. Thompson and Angel Luis Colón. According to the organizer, each month's event features three or four authors reading from their current work, across genres that include science fiction, fantasy, horror, young adult, mystery and humor.

The series began in May 2021 as a rooftop reading series. Ample Hills Creamery opened its upstairs space for it. The ice cream shop closed in December 2022, and the readings moved to Barrow's Intense Ginger Tasting Room in January 2023. Since May 2023 the series has carried its current name. It is hosted by journalist and author Randee Dawn. Locus, the science fiction and fantasy magazine, has run photo stories on several past readings, including one from the November 2024 event.

Readings run from 7 to 9pm and are free. Authors may sell and sign copies of their books if they choose. All ages are welcome, but unless an evening is labeled Young Adult, Middle Grade or Children's, it may include adult themes and language. The organizer also notes that the venue is a bar and restaurant.

The Tasting Room is at 86 34th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232, with the building entrance on 3rd Avenue. The nearest subway is the D train to 36th Avenue, then about a four-minute walk. Industry City is a complex of former industrial buildings now holding food, drink and shopping venues, and the organizer's site links a map for first-time visitors.
