On Friday, October 16, the Public Square and Gardens at Hudson Yards, between West 30th and West 33rd Streets on Manhattan's far West Side, screened the musical film Wicked outdoors at no charge. The picture played on the plaza's 30-foot Big Screen.

The evening belonged to the fall 2026 edition of Backyard at Hudson Yards, presented by Wells Fargo. After a summer of World Cup watch parties, live concerts and partnerships with STORYfest and Carnegie Hall, the free programming carried on through October with sports screenings, fitness sessions, cultural events and food vendors.

Wicked was one entry in a run of Friday movie nights that skewed toward stage-to-screen titles. RENT opened the series on September 18, followed by Mean Girls on September 25, Chicago on October 2 and Hairspray on October 9. After Wicked came Back to the Future on October 23 and Beetlejuice on October 30.

Wells Fargo customers were offered extra perks across the season, including early RSVP access to select events, complimentary popcorn on movie nights, and discounts or free upgrades at participating food vendors. The Backyard Bites lineup of Myka Truck, Dickson's Farmstand, Xing Fu Tang, Vive La Crepe and Van Leeuwen was scheduled to run through October 31.

The screening was free and open to the public.
