On Friday, October 30, the back room at Halyards, the Gowanus bar at 406 3rd Avenue, hosts Bitches Brew, a comedy and variety night produced and hosted by women. The show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is free, and a tip jar goes around the room.
The night is part of a weekly Friday series that mixes stand-up with musical comedy. This week's lineup features Gastor Almonte, Andrea Allan, Jake Velasquez, Jonathan Van Halem, Temi Adeoye and Blair Dawson. The show is run by Naomi Karavani, Sabeen Sadiq, Blair Dawson and Andrea Allan.
Seating is first come, first served, so arriving early helps. With no ticket price, it is an easy drop-in for a Friday evening, held in the bar's back room just off Third Avenue.
For anyone looking for a laugh in the neighborhood on the eve of the Halloween weekend, this is a low-commitment option with working Brooklyn and Manhattan comedians in a relaxed setting. The tip jar is how the performers get paid, so it's worth bringing a few dollars if you enjoy the show.
