Atlantic Theater Company is staging the world premiere of "I Became We" at its Linda Gross Theater, 336 West 20th Street in Chelsea. The run is limited and closes November 15.

The piece is a first-person monologue about a woman in her mid-thirties wrestling with one of the biggest decisions of her life. The twist is in the delivery: instead of a single actor, a sixteen-person choir sings the text. The language is plainspoken and contemporary, set in the manner of classical choral music. It is described as an auto-fictional, formally daring work.

Mona Pirnot, the writer behind "I'm Assuming You Know David Greenspan," wrote the play and co-wrote the lyrics with composer Jack D. Coen, whose credits include "Jo Jenkins Before the Galactic High Court of Consciousness." Sarah Benson, who directed "The Welkin" at Atlantic, directs. Pirnot and Benson are Obie winners, and Coen is a Relentless Award winner. Mimi Lien designs the sets, Tuce Yasak the lighting and Palmer Hefferan the sound.

The show runs 70 minutes with no intermission. Performances are generally at 7 PM on weeknights, with 2 PM matinees on select weekend dates. Audio description is offered on November 12. Tickets are $25 on select dates through November 1, and every seat is $31 for the Halloween night performance on October 31. Tickets are sold through Atlantic's website.
