A public mural standing 307 feet tall and spanning 29 stories was unveiled on Oct. 27, 2026, at the NYCHA Morrisania Air Rights (MAR) development in the South Bronx. Titled Un MAR de Gente / From Every Shore, it is billed as the tallest mural in the United States.
The painter is Néstor Omar García, a Dominican artist who works under the name Angurria. The nonprofit ArtBridge commissioned the piece. Work took about five months, and residents took part in workshops along the way, so the people who live in the buildings helped shape the project as it developed.
The title plays on language. "Un mar de gente" is a Spanish phrase for a sea of people, and "MAR" also abbreviates the development's name. The English subtitle, From Every Shore, points to a neighborhood made up of people who arrived from many places.
Funding came from the Public Housing Community Fund and a $165,000 grant from the M·A·C VIVA GLAM Fund.
ArtBridge has spent more than 15 years turning construction fencing and scaffolding across New York City into spaces for local artists. It also runs Bridging the Divide, a program that brings art to NYCHA properties. This mural is the largest-scale work to come out of that kind of effort, and its 29-story height makes it a landmark for anyone heading through Morrisania.
