On Sunday, Oct. 25, Culture Lab LIC in Long Island City, Queens, hosts 5 Boro Foto Fest in its Plaxall Gallery. The organizers bill it as a first-of-its-kind art flea market built around photography. It runs from 11am to 6pm.

The event's stated stance is "in support of the human artist, in peaceful protest of the machine." Vendors sell photographs, prints, zines, books and mixed-media work, and no AI-generated art is allowed. The organizers say they verified the work. The idea is to give photographers a place to sell printed pieces to an audience that cares about them, in an age of algorithms and constant screens.

The vendor list is broad. Individual photographers will sell prints, books and zines. Photography galleries, independent photo bookstores and specialty shops, collectives and darkroom communities will also take part, along with gear brands, labs and publishers from the photo world. Buying straight from the person who made the work is the main draw of a flea format.

Admission is free, and registration is also available on site. Free tickets can be reserved through the event's ticketing page beforehand. The festival is presented by The Phoblographer, Corse Design, Mallon Productions and Culture Lab LIC, with sponsorship in part from Printique by Adorama, Sigma, MPB and Signs365.

The venue is at 5-25 46th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101. For anyone who likes printed photography, zines and photo books, it makes an easy Sunday outing in Queens, and a chance to talk with local photographers about their work.
