On Saturday, Oct. 17, Fourth Arts Block (FABnyc) held the fourth Lower East Side Arts & Culture Open House. Timed to Open House New York weekend, it brought together more than 20 neighborhood arts and culture groups, all welcoming visitors with no ticket and no admission fee. Every participant had staff on hand to answer questions about its programs.

The hub was the East 4th Street Open Street, between Second Avenue and the Bowery. Organizations tabled along the block, a stage hosted live music, poetry and theater, and there were hands-on art activities for all ages. Most street programming ran from about noon to 5pm. Bond Street Theatre gave free stilt lessons from 1 to 4pm. Nuyorican Poets Cafe built collaborative group poems about the neighborhood and shared updates on its building's renovation ahead of a 2027 reopening. Swiss Institute ran an art-making table on gifts and gift giving.

Beyond the block, venues opened their own doors. ABC No Rio led hard-hat tours of its new home at 156 Rivington St at noon and 1pm. La MaMa offered archive and theater tours looking back on its 65-year history. The New Museum, at 235 Bowery, held workshops and performances, and Abrons Arts Center at 466 Grand St hosted a fall festival. The Ukrainian Museum, Movement Research and Loisaida Center also took part. In the evening, Think!Chinatown presented an open-air performance by dancer Ling Tang and Ba Ban Chinese Music Society, 6 to 8pm at 1 Pike St.

Maps were available at the FABnyc table, and visitors used them to plan a route through the neighborhood. The day offered a look inside theaters, studios and archives that are usually ticketed or closed. FABnyc's offices are at 70 East 4th Street.
