Ice Theatre of New York (ITNY) has begun its 2026-27 City Skate Concerts, a series of free pop-up ice dance performances at public outdoor rinks around the city. The season opened on Tuesday, November 3, at lunchtime in Bryant Park.

More Bryant Park shows are listed for Tuesday, January 12, Tuesday, February 2 and Tuesday, February 16. Each runs from 12:30 to 12:50pm, a short enough slot to catch on a lunch break. There is no charge.

The November 3 program had three pieces: "Modigliani," choreographed by Lorna Brown and performed by Sarah Baetge; "Wheels of a Dream," choreographed by Kaitlyn Weaver for Liz Yoshiko Schmidt and Aaron Singletary; and "Happy Feet," choreographed and performed by Vakhtang Murvanidze.

Last season's repertoire gives a sense of the range: Jody Sperling's "Arctic Memory," "Take Five," "Purple Rain," "Lion King," a flamenco solo and "Skaters Waltz." It is ice dance treated as performing art rather than competition, and seen from a few feet away at the boards.

ITNY was founded by Moira North to advance dance on ice as a performance art. It was the first ice dance company to receive dance program funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Its Manhattan programming is funded in part by a grant from the New York City Tourism Foundation. The company also has other dates at neighborhood rinks across the season.
