Kappo Sono, the kappo-style Japanese restaurant from chef Chikara Sono, holds its grand opening on November 18, 2026, inside One Bryant Park in Midtown. It is the newest iteration of the restaurant, at 135 West 42nd Street.

The room is small: 16 seats in all, including a 10-seat counter wrapped around an open kitchen. Diners at the counter can watch each course being prepared and plated in front of them.

The meal is a kaiseki menu that runs about two and a half hours. It is organized around the 24 seasonal divisions of the traditional Japanese calendar, and the menu changes roughly every two weeks. That rhythm means the dishes track the finer shifts of the season, and a return visit a few weeks later can bring a noticeably different meal.

The drinks list covers sake, wine, Japanese spirits and cocktails, giving diners several ways to pair with the progression of courses.

With Bryant Park and the 42nd Street corridor close by, the restaurant suits a slow, deliberate dinner before or after a night out in Midtown. Reservations are taken through the restaurant's website, and gift cards are available.
