Ludovic Nkoth: Between Lines at Salon 94

Salon 94 opens Between Lines, a new series of paintings by Ludovic Nkoth, at its Upper East Side gallery at 3 East 89th Street. The exhibition is Nkoth's first major solo presentation in New York City and runs from November 5 through December 19, 2026.

The show takes movement as its subject, and it treats movement as something both physical and psychological. Nkoth paints dancers, figures caught in moments of interaction, and a constellation of profiles. Their gestures shift between the public register of performance and the private register of lived experience, so that a pose can read as staged and intimate at once.

Three sources of reference run through the series: ballet, performance, and the experience of migration. Together they frame a broader question about how people learn to move through the world. Discipline, adaptation, memory and change all shape that learning, and the paintings ask what stays in the body once a movement has ended. The title, Between Lines, points to the space between gestures and between one state and the next, rather than to any single pose.

Nkoth is a painter with Cameroonian roots, and questions of migration and identity have long informed how his figures can be understood. Here those concerns are approached through dance and bodily expression, offering a new angle on his figurative practice.

The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, 11am to 6pm. Its Upper East Side location sits close to several major museums, which makes it easy to pair a visit with other stops in the neighborhood. Salon 94 can be reached at 212.979.0001.
