Givenchy's best-known footwear design has been rebuilt by creative director Sarah Burton. The Shark Pinch Boot keeps the commanding shape of the original Shark but extends the shaft to the thigh. On the fall/winter 2026 runway in Paris it appeared in six variations that moved between tailoring and eveningwear, and the house now sells several versions.
The new name comes from the Pinch, a metal hardware detail that debuted on the Pinch bag in Burton's first season at Givenchy. Per The Impression, it draws on the gestures of cutting, folding and fitting that define her tailoring. It has since spread across bags, clutches, loafers and the boot, which gives the house a recognizable element that travels across categories. Highsnobiety adds that Burton brings couture technique to the boot through layering that deepens the sense of volume, with the Pinch hardware as a small bite of metal.
The Shark itself has a long history. Cultured traces the first generation to Givenchy's Haute Couture fall/winter 2008 collection, and by 2012 it was on runways and city streets in suede, snakeskin and metallics. The crescent-shaped shark-tooth detail and the sculptural sheath gave it its name. Ariana Grande, Anya Taylor-Joy and Teyana Taylor have all worn the style. Baller Alert reports that the earlier Shark Lock boot was discontinued, and that the Shark Pinch is the version now in stores.
For New Yorkers, the boot is sold in Givenchy boutiques and online at givenchy.com. Cultured notes that with fashion month underway you may spot the silhouette around the city. For readers in Japan, the practical point is the same: this is a runway update to a long-running Givenchy signature, now purchasable through the house's own channels.
