For BEAMS' 50th anniversary, Levi's and LOOPWHEELER rework the Super Wide silhouette in Wakayama-knit suspended French terry. The six-piece capsule launched in Japan October 17, goes live on Levi.com October 22, and reaches BEAMS America in New York on October 23.

BEAMS turns 50 this year, and one of its anniversary projects is a three-way collaboration with Levi's and the knitwear label LOOPWHEELER. It is the fifth Levi's collaboration with the Japanese select shop. The collection revives the Super Wide silhouette from earlier capsules, but the fabric is the twist: instead of denim, the jacket and pants are cut from suspended French terry, knitted on rare loopwheel machines in Wakayama, Japan.

The capsule has six pieces: three items, each in heather gray and navy. The Super Wide Trucker is based on the classic Levi's Type I jacket, with Levi's and LOOPWHEELER name tags on the cuffs and front pockets. The Super Wide Pant carries a back patch with the LOOPWHEELER and BEAMS names, and the back pockets keep Levi's arcuate stitching in contrasting color blocks. The bandana draws on vintage Levi's bandana patterns.

Prices, including tax and as reported by the Japanese press, are 58,300 yen for the jacket, 49,500 yen for the pants and 4,400 yen for the bandana. Purchases are limited to one piece per style and color per person. The campaign was shot in Oakland, California, with pro skateboarder and custom bike builder Max Schaaf and Steven Orellana. A short documentary follows artisans in the Wakayama factory turning yarn into fabric.

The rollout began in Japan on October 17 at BEAMS Harajuku, BEAMS JAPAN in Shinjuku and BEAMS JAPAN Kyoto. Levi's says the global launch is October 22, and the collection is live today on Levi.com, with selected stores worldwide also carrying it. BEAMS America, the retailer's U.S. outpost, starts selling on October 23. At the three Japanese stores, buyers of both the jacket and pants could enter a lottery for a special T-shirt with a Levi's Saddleman graphic on the back. For readers following Japanese craft, it pairs a Wakayama knitting tradition with an American workwear staple.
