The organizer also runs markets in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and Seattle. Its pitch is simple: let shoppers meet Asian-owned brands in person. This New York edition lists more than 90 of them.

The market's Instagram has introduced several New York vendors. Overjoyed Beauty is a New York-based independent label that makes handmade, reusable press-on nails in small batches. Default NYC designs clothing meant to move from day to night, including cargos, jackets, tees, hats and totes, with graphics drawn from city details such as bodega flowers and transit. Brooklyn's Studio Ichiban hand-makes small nostalgic pieces, among them beaded dumpling keychains, mini ramen bowl charms and food-inspired earrings, with anime and comfort food as its main inspirations.

Food and drink are part of the lineup too. Posts mention madeleines, pineapple shortbread, a sweet potato latte and single-origin matcha, from bakers and drink makers including Cammie's, Rose's Pineapple Shorts, Forest Hall Bakery and Snowmelt Matcha.

For Japanese readers, matcha, anime and ramen show up as recurring motifs among the vendors. The next New York date is Saturday, December 5, also at Industry City from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. An application form for prospective vendors is posted on the market's website.
