Berlin eyewear house Mykita and Cologne luggage maker Rimowa released a new pair of sunglasses on October 15, the MR007 and MR008. Both German companies describe the project as an open-ended design partnership rather than a run of seasonal drops. Mykita creative director Moritz Krueger frames the fit around shared engineering: each company runs its own manufacturing and materials work, and the collaboration draws on that knowledge instead of putting a logo across a frame.

The MR007 is a perfectly round frame that pairs Mykita's lightweight stainless steel with rings of Rimowa's anodized aluminum, so the suitcase metal appears as a thin edge around each lens. The MR008 refines the wraparound shield visor Mykita already makes, closing the face in a single sweep. Press reports add that it uses a purpose-developed toric lens structure and a shield clip made of MYLON.

The collection is organized into two families. Heritage, led by the MR007, collects pieces meant to become instant classics. Visor, led by the MR008, is the experimental lane, driven by lightweight construction and new technical approaches to eyewear. Alongside the new models, Heritage's teardrop aviator, the MR006, gets an all-black monochrome version, and a new color, Cashmere Silver, joins the MR008 and the MR005.

Japanese fashion outlet Fashionsnap reported prices of ¥106,700 for the MR007 and ¥92,400 for the MR008. In Japan the glasses are sold at Mykita stores, partner retailers and Rimowa's official online store. The launch comes with a campaign called The Rehearsal, a film featuring Nina Hoss and Leon Dame.

Krueger says neither brand relies on decoration, and that the character comes from the design itself, which is why the first drop leans on metal rather than prints or colors.
