New Balance will release the 990v7 on November 6, the newest version of its flagship 990 line and the successor to the 990v6. Official images have now been published, and the first colorway is a Made in USA "Kool Grey" (style code U990GR7, listed as Kool Grey/Calcium-Light Arctic Grey).

The upper is built mostly from suede and mesh. Light grey suede wraps the toe, heel, eyestays and lower side panels, darker grey suede covers parts of the middle, and grey mesh sits on the toe box and sides. The side "N" logo has a lined texture, filled in pale blue with a soft yellow outline. Those two colors return on the midsole, alongside off-white accents.

Two changes stand out underneath. The FuelCell midsole first used on the 990v6 has been made softer, aimed at better cushioning and energy return. A new TPU shank at the midfoot joins ENCAP technology and the signature CR device to keep the foot stable and supported. The 990 branding remains on the heel.

The line dates to the original 990 of 1982, which Complex describes as the first sneaker to retail for $100. The 990v7 is priced at $200 and comes in unisex sizing, which Complex notes is reasonable next to the original's price adjusted for inflation, roughly $349.

It will be sold at NewBalance.com and select retailers. Complex reports that additional colorways are expected to be announced later. Sneaker Bar Detroit notes that the shoe had been previewed for months through early photos and billboards before the official reveal. The coverage does not name specific New York stores or launch formats.
