Bottega Veneta has unveiled a capsule collection built around Moomin, the characters created by Finnish author and artist Tove Jansson. The house operates stores in New York, but this release is staged in Japan.

The range covers bags, wallets, leather charms and a hand-crocheted Snufkin figurine. Rather than printing characters across everything, the designers tuck references into the house's intrecciato weave, the colors and the hardware. The Small Andiamo, for instance, takes its cue from Moominmamma's apron.

The rollout comes in two steps. A pop-up opens at Isetan Shinjuku on Nov. 11. From Nov. 18, the collection is available at the Ginza and Omotesando flagships, the leather goods store at Hankyu Umeda and on the Bottega Veneta Japan website.

For New Yorkers with a trip to Japan on the calendar, this is a collaboration worth planning a stop around. Fans of Moomin and of Bottega's woven leather will find both in the same pieces.
