Song for the Mute, the Australian label, has taken the adidas Samba OG, a terrace-shoe standard, and rebuilt it in black leather. The Three Stripes are cream rather than bright white, so the contrast stays soft. Luxe Digital says the combination pulls the shoe away from its sporty roots and toward something a little smarter.

The signature detail is the heel. Rather than standing rigid as on a store-fresh pair, it is left slightly collapsed, so the shoe looks broken in before it has been worn. The silhouette is still unmistakably a Samba, and Luxe Digital notes there is no new paneling and no reshaping of the toe. The changes are in material, finish and attitude. After several seasons of white and off-white Sambas, the publication reads this black pair as the opposite of a shoe meant to be kept pristine.

The shoe belongs to 008, the eighth chapter of the label's collaboration with adidas. House of Heat reports that 008 also includes the new SL 72 Pro, and that the Samba OG comes in three colorways: Base Green, Brown and Black/White. Suede and leather are used across the trio, with the collapsible heel as the deconstructed touch. The black pair carries the product code HQ7600, and the official product page lists it as Core Black. Earlier chapters of the partnership reworked the Superstar, Adistar Cushion, Adizero PR and Taekwondo Mei.

Release was staged. According to House of Heat, a pre-launch took place on September 12 through the label's flagship stores and its own website, followed by Greater China and Australia on September 18. The label confirmed on Instagram that the global release reached select stockists on October 16. The shoe sits in the Footwear 008 section of the brand's online shop, within the FW26 chapter titled 26.2 Playground. The label, now 16 years old, presents each season as a chapter in a long-form story with a male and female cast. A price has not been reported.
