Tokyo's Instant Skateboards Gets a Nike SB Air Force 1 City Pack Pair, Black and Royal, Not Sold in NYC
Tokyo skate shop Instant Skateboards joins Nike SB's Air Force 1 City Pack with a black suede pair with royal blue Swooshes. A matching pair without Instant branding is slated for skate shops worldwide, and the shop has released a short film. The shop's own pair ships only within Japan.
Instant Skateboards, the Tokyo skate shop that opened in Shibuya in 1995, has joined Nike SB's Air Force 1 City Pack. Press coverage describes the pack as one of the first skate-shop-specific runs on the redesigned SB Air Force 1, inspired by the old "Color of the Month" idea that kept the AF1 going in the 1980s and early 2000s. It is Instant's first collaboration on this silhouette.
The colorway is Black, Game Royal and White. Black suede covers nearly the whole upper, with royal blue on the Swoosh, the heel tab and the Nike SB heel branding. A white midsole breaks up the dark tone. The scheme recalls the old SB Dunk "J-Pack" without copying it, and Instant's logo appears in blue on the outer heel. The style code is reported as IV5289-002.
The SB version of the AF1 has been rebuilt for skating. The midsole is lower for better board feel, the Air unit stays in the heel, and the outsole uses a modified herringbone pattern for grip and flexibility.
On availability, Sole Retriever says the Instant-branded pair, like the Ben-G pair, is extremely limited and sold only through the shop. It went on sale October 9 in store and online. Sneaker Files reports that the shop ships only within Japan, and lists a retail price of $120. Sole Retriever also reports that a matching pair without the Instant logo is planned for skate shops worldwide.
Instant's official Instagram posted a film titled "AF-1 City Pack x instant" on October 24 and 25. It stars sakurako_sk8, kouju.jp, lil_k_tokyo, rio_sawa, ren_strawberry, ikeda__daisuke and taihoutokura, with edit by koto_mov, and is on YouTube. The shop also announced a Tokyo premiere on October 29 of a Taihou Tokura video, made with Thrasher, at Robin Club in Omotesando, with doors at 7 p.m.
