Billy's, the Tokyo retailer, has commissioned an exclusive version of the New Balance 204L in a deep brown colorway called "Black Coffee." The style number is U204L9A6, and it goes on sale at 12:00 a.m. on November 7.
The 204L blends the upper design of 2000s running shoes with a thin, low-profile sole. In this version the upper is done entirely in brown, with suede, leather and mesh layered to create depth within a single tone. Because the sole sits so low, the overall look is close to that of a leather dress shoe.
Two sets of laces are included, one brown and one turquoise blue. You can keep the pair understated or add a bright accent, depending on the outfit or the mood. The materials are natural leather and synthetic fibers, including cow and pig leather.
The price is ¥17,930 with tax, roughly $113. Sizes run from 22.5 cm to 30 cm, in 15 steps. The shoe is sold through Billy's official online shop, where pre-orders run from 6:00 p.m. on October 30 through 11:59 p.m. on November 6, with shipping starting around November 7.
For New Yorkers who already wear New Balance's slim, low-key models through fall and winter, this is a refined Japanese take built around brown. It is an online-store release from Tokyo.
