Sanrio and design platform Figma are throwing a public birthday party for Hello Kitty at 12 East 14th Street, near Union Square. The pop-up runs November 7 and 8, from 10 am to 6 pm each day. It is free and first come, first served.
Look for the green Hello Kitty and Friends truck, which serves matcha or strawberry milk. Inside, visitors collect a mystery character keychain and customize it at the charm bar, then pose for a photo with their new friend.
The first 150 visitors each day also receive a limited-edition sweatshirt and patches, so an earlier arrival is the safer bet.
The event marks Sanrio's first integration with Figma. Since November 1, Hello Kitty's birthday, 12 Sanrio characters have been available in FigJam, Figma's online whiteboard. They include Hello Kitty, Pochacco, My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin, and they come with themed cursors, washi tape, sticky notes and selfie frames. The FigJam run lasts through November 8.
A warm-up stop ran on the Lower East Side. The Old Friend photobooth at 145 Allen Street offers a free Figma and Sanrio photostrip on November 6 and 7, from 10 am to 10 pm.
