Diwali at Times Square, the festival marking the Hindu festival of lights, holds its 11th annual edition on Saturday, Oct. 24. It takes over Broadway between 46th and 48th Streets in Manhattan from 11am to 9pm. Admission is free and no ticket is required.

The organizers say American media call it the largest Diwali festival outside India. New York City declared Oct. 29, 2023 "Diwali at Times Square Day," and Diwali became an official NYC school holiday the same year. The city has been a partner of the event since 2024, and the Consulate General of India in New York also partners with it. This year's theme is "Celebrating from East to West."

More than 2,000 national and international performers have taken part over the years. Past names include Ranbir Kapoor, Mika Singh, Sukhbir Singh, Jay Sean and Shankar Mahadevan. Performer registrations for this year are closed. Sponsors include Toyota, P&G, Tanishq and SBI, along with the Indian restaurants Benares and Punjabi Dhaba.

Times Square is served by many subway lines, but the area is crowded on any weekend, so allow extra time. The festival celebrates the victory of light over darkness, and it offers a free introduction to South Asian culture in the middle of Midtown.
