Flower Power at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx ended its run on October 18, 2026. The show opened May 23, following a members-only preview on May 22, and took 1960s hippie culture as its subject, presenting flowers as lasting symbols of peace and love and as a way of drawing people closer to the natural world.

The main displays sat in and around the Haupt Conservatory, where psychedelic plantings and art installations filled the space. A large rainbow-hued flower sculpture stood among the greenery inside. Elsewhere on the grounds, classic VW buses were painted in bright colors for photos, and a big botanical peace sign covered in flowers drew visitors to pose in front of it.

In the Museum Building gallery, paintings, photographs, screenprints and collages from the 1960s and '70s showed flowers as emblems of peace. The headline work was Andy Warhol's Flowers (1964), hung beside its source image, a photograph by nature photographer and environmental activist Patricia Caulfield. Pieces by Joe Brainard, Milton Glaser, Carlos Irizarry and Corita Kent were among the others on view.

Programming leaned on weekends. Be-In the Music, held Saturdays, Sundays and select Fridays and Mondays, brought a rotating lineup of New York City folk musicians inspired by the Greenwich Village scene and by lesser-known genres of the decade. The Counterculture Circle Series added drum circles, craft workshops and meditative activities on weekends, plus a summer film series. Classes covered the architecture of a flower, botanical illustration and painting.

After-hours Liquid Light Shows ran on May 30 and June 13, 20 and 27, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Each night had a headlining band on stage, including Ghost Funk Orchestra and Habibi, while Liquid Light Lab projected colorful visuals onto the facade of the Mertz Library.
NYBG Shop sold themed apparel, gifts and decor, including tie-dyed items, in person and online, and the Garden published a Spotify playlist of 1960s hits as the show's soundtrack. Members received free daytime admission to Flower Power every day. The Garden is at 2900 Southern Blvd, Bronx, NY 10458.
