On Friday, October 16, 2026, NYC Parks ran the Hallowscream Fright Walk at J. Hood Wright Park in Washington Heights, Manhattan. The event ran from 4 to 7 p.m., cost nothing and was open to the public. The Parks calendar lists it under Halloween, Fall Festivals, Best for Kids, Games, Arts & Crafts and Festivals.

The walk took place at the park's basketball courts, at 351 Fort Washington Avenue, near West 174th Street. It was an interactive haunted house on foot. Organizers encouraged people to arrive in costume and billed it as the scariest party in town. Visitors could go through at any point during the three-hour window.

The Parks page was frank about the intensity. It warned of frightening images and special effects, sudden movements and jump scares, loud audio, flashing lights and low visibility, and fog, in an environment that could be physically and emotionally demanding.

Participants had to follow several rules. They were asked to wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes and leave jewelry at home. Running was not allowed, and neither was touching props or actors. No bags or belongings could go inside. Parents were advised to use their discretion and supervise closely, especially for anyone under 13, and waivers had to be signed by an adult.

Questions about the event could go to 212-408-0243. Accessibility questions were handled at accessibility@parks.nyc.gov or 212-360-1430. The Parks listing marks the location as accessible.

The event has now ended. NYC Parks' wider Halloween and fall programming also includes free events across the five boroughs.
