New York Adventure Club is running "Exploring the Hidden Gems of Central Park: Fall Foliage Edition" on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET. The guided walk is timed for peak fall color.

Central Park covers 843 acres and is nearly 165 years old. The route runs from the south end to mid-park. It opens with a short account of how Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux's vision became reality. From there it moves through sights that visitors often pass by, including a statue honoring a beloved sled dog and the oldest outdoor monument in New York City.

The itinerary covers four of the park's 29 sculptures. They range from the Angel of the Waters at Bethesda Fountain to the new Women's Rights Pioneers monument. Walkers will also see the park's second-oldest building, its only straight path and a surveyor's bolt from the 1811 street grid. The route then climbs through the wooded, hilly Ramble and stops at Belvedere Castle for wide views.

The guide is Ginny Poleman, a licensed NYC tour guide and docent for the Municipal Art Society. She also runs private art, architecture and history tours through her company, NYC Encounters. The pace is moderate, so bring a water bottle and comfortable shoes.

The group meets outside the front entrance of The Arsenal, facing East 64th Street, at 830 5th Avenue. The tour ends at 79th Street and 5th Avenue. Tickets are $39.98, all fees included, and are sold through New York Adventure Club. The event takes place rain or shine.
