On October 17, 2026, the nonprofit Wellness for the People (WFTP) held its Wellness for the People Fest in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. The group's motto is "Where Community Is The Medicine," and it says it started out of a belief that everyone should have access to feeling well and caring for themselves and each other. The invitation was broad: bring the whole family, your friends, and your friends' friends. Entry was free, with an RSVP through Eventbrite.

The day opened with movement. Roberto Hued and Maga Villarreal led collective yoga or functional movement meant to be accessible to all bodies, with the whole group moving together. A "Couch Session: Inspiration + Tools" followed, a community conversation between Djali of Nueva Yorkinos and WFTP co-founder Paula Duran. Storyteller Joel Leon performed spoken word poetry, and Kenji Summers led a session that combined a wisdom talk, deep listening, guided breathing and meditation.

The festival closed with dancing and a celebration led by Dance Church. Alongside the program, there was food, a market and community activations that included tarot card readers and teas.

WFTP said the event was free thanks to its donors and sponsors. It is a 501(c)(3), and it states that donations are 100 percent tax-deductible and go toward accessible wellness events like this one. Community partners listed on the festival page included Dance Church, Prospect Park, Anima Mundi and Nueva Yorkinos. Nordic Naturals was the presenting partner, and Boom Boom and Funguy were supporting partners.

For Japanese readers used to paid yoga and meditation classes, the format stands out: a full day of group movement, talks, poetry and dance in a public park, offered at no charge.
