The TCS New York City Marathon returns on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026. According to organizer New York Road Runners (NYRR), nearly 60,000 marathoners from around the world will cover 26.2 miles through all five boroughs. The race starts on Staten Island and finishes in Central Park, and the official account calls it the best day of the year in New York.

Staten Island's role in the race got a preview on Oct. 11, when more than 10,000 runners took part in the NYRR Staten Island Half. NYRR described it as a chance to race through the borough about a month before it hosts the marathon start, and as the finale of its annual Five-Borough Series.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the five-borough course. To celebrate, NYRR held Rising NYRR TCS New York City Marathon Kids Kickoff events in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx and Manhattan over the weekend. More than 4,500 young runners took part, and the Manhattan event was held in Central Park.
Race organizers have published an official course preview video ahead of the race. Susannah Scaroni, a three-time TCS New York City Marathon champion, is also back to compete in the five boroughs.
NYRR's latest impact report adds some context for the scale of the organization behind the race: nearly 700,000 participants ran, walked, and moved with NYRR in fiscal year 2026, membership passed 100,000 for the first time, and miles run raised a record $91.9 million for hundreds of charities. On race day, the route links all five boroughs, so spectators in any of them can watch from the roadside.
