The 2026 TCS New York City Marathon took place on Sunday, November 1. The 26.2-mile course runs through all five boroughs, and this year marked 50 years since the race first took that route. According to the organizer, New York Road Runners (NYRR), the first wave started at 8 a.m. NYRR described the field as nearly 60,000 people in the class of 2026.

Marathon weekend began before race day. The opening ceremony was held Friday, October 30 at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, October 31, the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K sent more than 11,500 runners through the streets of Manhattan to the same Central Park finish line used by the marathon. The women's race went to Rachael Rudel in 15:35, ahead of Josette Andrews (15:41) and Edna Kurgat (15:42). In the men's race, Habtom Samuel won in 13:31, followed by Edwin Kurgat (13:38) and Amon Kemboi (13:40).

Earlier in race week, more than 4,500 children took part in the Rising NYRR TCS New York City Marathon Kids Kickoff. To mark the anniversary of the five-borough course, NYRR held kickoff events in all five boroughs this year. The Manhattan event was in Central Park.
NYRR also reported that the charity runners passed their $100 million fundraising goal this year. The club has shared posts thanking the crowds along the course, and it has also highlighted the Final Finishers, the last runners across the line.
NYRR described race day as the day New York shows up for the runners, with spectators cheering in every borough. Its official Instagram accounts, @nycmarathon and @nyrr, have race photos and videos from the weekend. For Japanese readers who know marathons such as Tokyo, this is the big five-borough race that crosses much of the city in one run.
