Special Focus on Taryn Simon: Executive Orders at Almine Rech New York
Almine Rech

Almine Rech New York in Tribeca is presenting a focused show of work by Taryn Simon, running September 16 through October 21, 2026. It coincides with her solo exhibition at the Guggenheim, "Taryn Simon | Father Country I Do Love You," which opens September 18 and continues to March 14, 2027. The gallery's contribution is a group of photographs from her recent series, Executive Orders.

Simon was born in New York in 1975 and still lives and works there. At the Guggenheim she is premiering a new body of work that brings together photographs, text, videos and sculptures in an interactive installation filling the whole Rotunda. The Tribeca presentation offers a smaller, more concentrated look at one strand of her current thinking.

The subject of Executive Orders is the presidential directive, a tool that lets a US president push change forward without passing through Congress. In his first year back in office, Donald Trump signed 230 executive orders and over 100 proclamations and memorandums. Taken one document at a time, the stream of paperwork steers a country in a new direction. Simon's photographs focus on the objects involved and the gap between an office, a pen, an idea and the real world, something close to an archaeology of the present.

Works on view include White House Custom Pen (2026), Executive Order 14347 / Restoring the United States Department of War (2026) and Executive Order 14341 / Prosecuting Burning of the American Flag (2026). Each is an archival inkjet print in an artist's frame, roughly 84 by 70 centimeters, issued in an edition of four plus two artist's proofs.

With the show closing October 21, there is little time left. Seen alongside the Guggenheim exhibition, it gives a clear view of where Simon's attention is now.
