The School of Visual Arts' BFA Animation department holds its annual Undies screening today, Friday, October 30, from noon to 6 pm at the SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street in Chelsea. Now in its eighth year, the event is free and open to the public, and can also be joined online.

The Undies showcases films made over the past year by BFA Animation juniors. It is framed as a celebration of creativity and artistry in animation, and it gives audiences a broad look at what the department's students are making.

Prizes are awarded in six categories: Best in Show, Best Animation, Best Production Design, Best Soundtrack, Best Story, and the "Dirty Undies" distinctions. The awards are juried by ballot during the event, and only first-year BFA Animation students serve as judges. By tradition, the freshman class evaluates the work of the students a year ahead of them.

The audience has a say too. Everyone attending can vote for the Undies Audience Choice Award, which goes to the winner of the crowd's ballot.

RSVP is available through Eventbrite. The artwork for this year's screening, an illustration of two characters on a couch watching a widescreen TV that reads "The 2026 Undies," is credited to Dylan Baddeley. For anyone curious about emerging animators, it is a free half-day of student films in West Chelsea.
