Lincoln Center's free participatory series Come & Sing returns this week with "Broadway Finales," a group singing session at Lincoln Center Theater, 150 West 65th St. The idea is simple: nobody watches from the sidelines. Everyone in the room learns the songs and sings them together.
The theme is the closing number. Participants will work through finale songs from two musicals, Hair and Into the Woods, picking up the material on the spot. The session is open to all ages, and no singing experience is required.
Ben Bram leads the session, with guests Brooke Ishibashi and Sasha Allen joining in. Singing alongside working stage performers is the draw here, and it makes for a different kind of Broadway evening than sitting in the house.
Admission is free. Pre-registration is also free and recommended, while walk-ins are admitted on a first-come basis.
It suits families, friends, and anyone who has ever hummed a show tune on the subway and wanted to try it with a crowd. For a Japanese-speaking New Yorker curious about Broadway repertoire without buying a ticket, it is an easy, no-cost way in, set on the Lincoln Center campus on the Upper West Side.
