Lincoln Center's David Rubenstein Atrium on the Upper West Side hosts "Voices of a People's History" on Thursday, November 5, at 7:30pm. Admission is free, and the program is open to all ages. It is an evening of readings and music inspired by the life of historian Howard Zinn and by Dave Zirin's biography of him.

At its center are recitations of speeches drawn from Zinn's A People's History of the United States. The program reimagines themes of freedom and justice, giving voice on stage to people who are often missing from standard accounts of American history.

The lineup includes actors Wallace Shawn, Jessica Hecht and Arian Moayed, along with comedian Hari Kondabolu and other performers. Theater, spoken word and music share the bill, so the night should feel closer to a staged event than to a conventional lecture.

The Atrium is Lincoln Center's home for free programming, with music, theater, dance, comedy and family shows scheduled throughout the year. This evening is part of the Lincoln Center Presents season.

The venue is at 61 West 62nd Street. A Thursday-evening start makes it easy to stop by after work, whether you know Zinn's writing well or simply want an evening of strong language and live performance.
