CANADA, the artist-run gallery in Tribeca, is staging a two-day exhibition on October 22 and 23 at 60 Lispenard Street to raise funds for the restoration of The John and Alice Coltrane Home. The project is organized with The John and Alice Coltrane Foundation. Every work on view was donated, and the show lets visitors see in person the pieces offered in an online benefit auction running October 16–30.

The house is where John Coltrane composed A Love Supreme and where Alice Coltrane recorded her groundbreaking albums for Impulse! All donations go toward opening the site to the public, with the aim of making it a place for inspiration and creativity that carries the Coltrane legacy to future generations.

More than thirty artists are taking part, among them William Eggleston, Julie Mehretu, Do-Ho Suh, Katherine Bernhardt, Katherine Bradford, Joe Bradley, Bethany Collins, Jamal Cyrus and Kahlil Robert Irving. The checklist includes a 1962 gelatin silver print of John Coltrane by Chuck Stewart and Josiah McElheny's blue silkscreen print on a folded blank vinyl record cover. Scott Grooves contributes a small canvas titled Blue Train and You. Media range widely, from drawings, collage and photographs to an aluminum foil sculpture and Oji Haynes's mixed-media work built on a wooden door.

Opening night on Thursday, October 22 runs from 7 to 9 PM. Michelle Coltrane and Olivia Tilley perform that evening, with doors at 7 PM and the performance at 7:30 PM, and screenings of Alice Coltrane's Eternity's Pillar series are part of the program. General admission for the event carries a suggested donation of $25, and tickets are sold in advance. Donations can also be made directly to the foundation.

CANADA was founded in 1999 and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM. For anyone who cares about jazz and contemporary art alike, the show is a chance to support the preservation of a place central to modern music history.
