Candlelight Halloween Classics at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Upper East Side, NYC

The Church of the Heavenly Rest, an Episcopal church on Fifth Avenue in the Upper East Side, hosts a Halloween edition of Fever's Candlelight concert series. The Highline String Quartet performs for about 60 minutes among rows of candles, in a building whose design blends neo-Gothic and Art Deco elements. The tentative program opens with Michael Jackson's "Thriller," followed by Gounod's "Funeral March of a Marionette" and the second movement of Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8. From there it moves through screen themes: Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" from The Exorcist, Stranger Things (S U R V I V E), Danny Elfman's Beetlejuice, Vic Mizzy's The Addams Family, John Carpenter's Halloween, Bernard Herrmann's Psycho prelude and Ray Parker Jr.'s Ghostbusters. The concert-hall repertoire includes Saint-Saëns's "Danse Macabre," Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain," Schubert's "Der Erlkönig" and Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King," along with an Elfman medley from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Performances take place Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30, each at 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM. Tickets cost $39.50 in Zone C, $42 in Zone B and $68 in Zone A, with booking fees of $3.16, $3.36 and $5.44 respectively. Seating is assigned first come, first served within each zone.

The concert is for ages 8 and up, and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Doors open 45 minutes before the show and close five minutes before it starts; late arrivals are not admitted. The venue is ADA compliant. Souvenir seat cushions can be bought in advance or at the event, subject to availability, and a Candlelight plush mascot is available for $18.
