Eagle + West Tower adorn Greenpoint, Brooklyn's waterfront
Eagle + West
The Eagle and West Tower was completed in Greenpoint on the Brooklyn waterfront. The stair-like tower is covered with a striped facade of cast stone "shingles" that can be rotated to create striking shadows. The building is designed by OMA, an architectural design firm/urban planning consultant founded in 1975 by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and others, with Fukuoka-born architect Shohei Shigematsu serving as partner and head of the firm's New York office since 2008. Harajuku Quest, located between Omotesando and Okuharajuku in Tokyo, is also being designed by OMA New York, led by Shohei Shigematsu and associate Tsuyoshi Mitsuda.
New York City's waterfront area under development
The Greenpoint area at the northernmost tip of Brooklyn, where this Eagle + West is located, is one of the hottest areas in New York, with many popular sweets stores such as Peter Pan Donuts, stores such as Only NY, a street brand from New York, and artists' studios.
Along the East River from Williamsburg to Greenpoint, which commands a panoramic view of Manhattan, tower apartments are being built one after another, and on the Williamsburg waterfront, in addition to Domino Park, Domino Sugar, a former sugar factory, has been renovated and will open as a new facility.
