Golden Spiral Comedy is a monthly show held on the last Thursday of the month in Manhattan's East Village. The October edition takes place Thursday, Oct. 29, at Whiskey Cellar NYC, 77 E. 7th Street. The organizers describe it as one of the best NYC comedy shows run by women.
Mindy Raf and Katie Compa host, bringing in comics working in New York and beyond. The Eventbrite page pitches the night as a good fit for people who usually don't enjoy the standup-club atmosphere, and as a hang where you might leave wanting to be friends with the rest of the audience. The name comes from the Fibonacci theme: the page jokingly asks whether set lengths follow the sequence, and the show's premise is that they do.
The October lineup is Courtney Maginnis (HBO), Amanda Gordon (Subway Takes), Matt Goldich (Late Night Seth Myers) and Kofi Thomas (Secret Sauce Comedy). The organizers note that lineups are subject to change.
Tickets also follow the Fibonacci idea. To keep the show accessible while paying performers, advance tickets are sliding-scale, pay-what-you-can at $8, $13, $21 or $34. Tickets at the door start at $15. Promo codes apply only to advance sales. Every advance ticket enters you in a raffle for free drinks and a special Golden Spiral prize. Tickets are non-refundable.
Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.; the listing gives a running time of 1 hour 45 minutes. The venue is at 77 East 7th Street, New York, NY 10003.
