On Saturday, October 31, the Dover Quartet takes the stage at the Washington Irving campus, 40 Irving Place in Gramercy, for Peoples' Symphony Concerts. The concert is part of the Arens Series and begins at 7:30 PM. It offers a quieter option for Halloween night.
The program has three works. The first half pairs Brahms's String Quartet No. 3 in B-flat major, Op. 67, with Rattle Songs by Pura Fé, played in an orchestration by the Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate. After a 20-minute intermission, the quartet closes with Dvořák's Quartet No. 11 in C major, Op. 61. Expect about two hours in all.
The ensemble is Joel Link and Bryan Lee on violin, Julianne Lee on viola and Camden Shaw on cello. BBC Music Magazine has named the group one of the greatest string quartets of the last 100 years, and it has received two Grammy nominations. It swept every prize at the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition and is the ensemble in residence at the Curtis Institute of Music.
Tickets are $25 for reserved balcony seats, $20 for general admission and $10 for students and essential workers. Arens Series subscribers pay as little as $9.33 for this concert. Single tickets are sold through Ticket Tailor. A virtual version of the concert streams from Monday, November 2, through Saturday, November 7.
