Hyperallergic, the New York art publication, is throwing its annual Halloween party on Wednesday, October 28, at Oberon, which it calls Brooklyn's newest queer haven. The address is 196 N 10th St, and the evening starts at 7:00 pm. Hyperallergic members, contributors and staff are expected to gather for what the outlet describes as an evening of ghoulish revelry.

The centerpiece is the Art Costume Competition. Hrag Vartanian of Hyperallergic emcees. The judges are art critic Aruna D'Souza, artist Jia Song, and Nicholas D. Lowry, president of Swann Auction Galleries and a frequent guest expert on Antiques Roadshow. Guests are encouraged to dress as something art-related, and the organizers say to put on your most inspired outfit.

Drinks and food come from an open bar serving spooky cocktails and snacks. The ticket price includes the open bar.

For a sense of what the contest can produce, Hyperallergic has published a roundup of last year's winners. They included a committed reenactment of René Magritte's "Lovers" and a conceptual tribute to Relational Aesthetics.

Tickets are $20 for Hyperallergic paid members and $40 for non-members. RSVP is required, and tickets are sold through Luma via the event page on the Hyperallergic site. Members can sign in to their accounts to get the discounted price, and anyone who isn't a member can join to qualify for it.

The party falls three days before Halloween on a weeknight. It suits readers who want to see art-world costumes in person and spend an evening with the people behind one of the city's best-known art publications.
