From September 25, 2026 through January 31, 2027, the New Museum on the Bowery presents Diego Marcon: Arrivederci, Piggies!, an exhibition by the Italian artist. The title joins an Italian farewell with an English plural noun, and the pairing sets an odd, memorable tone before a visitor reaches the galleries.
Marcon is an Italian artist who works primarily with moving image. His practice draws on the conventions of short film and combines picture, sound and space to act on the viewer's senses. His work has been shown in museums and film settings, largely in Europe, and this show gives New York audiences a chance to see it in a major institutional setting.
The New Museum is one of the few institutions in the city devoted entirely to contemporary art. Its stacked, white-clad building at 235 Bowery was designed by the Japanese architecture firm SANAA, a detail that will interest readers who follow Japanese design. The museum sits within walking distance of SoHo and NoLita, and the exhibition is arranged within the building's distinctive spaces.
The show runs for more than four months, which makes it a fair candidate for a winter outing. Because moving-image work is often experienced over a set duration, it helps to allow generous time for the visit. The surrounding Lower East Side has small galleries, cafés and restaurants, so the museum fits easily into a full afternoon downtown.
